Jamshedpur, June 13: In a major disciplinary action, Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Das of Kadma police station has been suspended for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs1 lakh from a woman seeking to file a dowry harassment complaint. The action was taken by Jamshedpur SSP Piyush Pandey following an investigation led by City SP Kumar Shivashish.

The case came to light when the complainant approached former BJP district spokesperson Ankit Anand, alleging that SI Das had demanded money on June 3 and 4 in exchange for registering an FIR. Ankit Anand accompanied the woman and her brother to submit a written complaint to the SSP on June 5. The matter was also highlighted on social media, with tweets directed to the Chief Minister, DGP, Kolhan DIG, and the State Police Complaints Authority.

Following the complaint, SSP Pandey instructed City SP Shivashish to conduct a thorough inquiry. During the investigation, WhatsApp call records, chat messages, and detailed statements of the complainant and her family were collected and reviewed. On Sunday, the statements of the complainant, her father, brother, and Ankit Anand were recorded at the City SP’s office, along with relevant digital evidence supporting the bribery allegations.

The investigation concluded that there was a lack of expected cooperation from Kadma police officials and sufficient evidence to justify disciplinary action. Based on these findings, Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Das was suspended with immediate effect.

Reacting to the development, BJP leader Ankit Anand stated, “This is not just a victory for the victim, but for the public’s faith in the police system. It is unfortunate that the Kadma police in-charge remained silent even after being informed. I appreciate the swift response of the DGP, SSP, and City SP that made justice possible.”

Anand further tweeted, “Justice delivered… Satyamev Jayate. Na Khayenge, Na Khane Denge,” emphasizing that the case sent a strong message for transparency and accountability within the Jharkhand Police.
