Jamshedpur Cooperative College to become university, proposal passed

Jamshedpur, Nov 16: Jamshedpur Cooperative College is all set to become a full-fledged university. A proposal to this effect has got the nod of the Higher Education Department of Jharkhand government, sources said.

Sources said a team of officials of the Higher Education Department and several specialists will be visiting the college campus spread across 22 acres of land on 22nd November to review the existing infrastructure and facilities. The team will visit the administrative block and the buildings housing the arts, commerce and science faculties. It will prepare estimates after physical inspection, informed Dr Jayant Shekhar, Registrar, Kolhan University.

Sources said the Cooperative College would be upgraded into a university just like Ranchi Women’s College and Jamshedpur Women’s College. The college would be an independent university. It is not yet decided whether other colleges of the city would join the university or not. The college has got NIRF ranking, sources said.

 Sources said the expected budget of turning the college into university could be well above Rs 150 crore.
