Jamshedpur: Contract workers exploitation discussed at union meet

Jamshedpur, June 4: A meeting of contract unorganized and sanitation workers was held under the chairmanship of Jharkhand Unorganized Labour Union Secretary Ramesh Mukhi on Sunday at AITUC office,  Sakchi.

The exploitation of sanitation workers was discussed in detail in the meeting. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that cleanliness is a work of permanent nature.

A massive agitation will be held to make all the contract laborers engaged in this work permanent wherever they are employed and to immediately declare the cleaning work as a contractual practice prohibited. Pressure will be made on the company management to make the cleaning staff permanent.

The issue of exploitation of contract and unorganized laborers in Tata Steel and taking bribe of Rs 5000 in the name of medical was also discussed in the meeting. At the same time, the issue of illegally taking money from laborers in the name of JNTHTI training was also discussed.

A comprehensive movement strategy was chalked out against these issues. Under which laborers will be made aware by running public awareness campaign cum signature campaign in all the settlements of Jamshedpur.
