Jamshedpur, March 17: In a broad day light incident, a 19-year-old girl who is a student of Jamshedpur Co-operative College fell victim to two bike-borne mobile snatchers in Northern Town under Bistupur police station.
The victim, Khusbu Kumari, was going to her college on foot through Office Road in Northern Town when two youths came on a bike and snatched away the set from her hand and fled.
The victim is a resident of Bagbera Colony. She screamed for help but by that time the bike-borne criminals fled the spot.
Subsequently, the victim came to the Bistupur thana and lodged an FIR in connection to the incident leading the police to swing into action.
The victim said she is scheduled to appear for her examination at the Jamshedpur Co-operative College from tomorrow and therefore she was going to check her seat arrangement today.
A team of police officials had subsequently went over to the spot and tried to find out CCTV footage of the criminals who committed the snatching.
OC, Bistupur thana, Rajesh Prakash Sinha said “we are trying to trace the mobile phone snatchers by getting the CCTV footage scanned. We expect the criminals will be nabbed shortly,” said Sinha.
There has been a spurt in petty crimes in the city. We have been
successful in arresting quite a few thieves involved in the reported
cases but I think there is a need to ensure proper night watch. We are
planning to increase the movement of mobile police and vigil,” said an official.
Meanwhile, break-in in shops, thefts from scooter or motorcycle
carriers and pick pocketing are at an all time high.
