Jamshedpur, April 9: A violent dispute that began over dominance and alleged harassment during a religious procession has escalated into a major criminal case following the death of a youth on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the Sitaramdera police station area near the Chhayanagar community hall.

The deceased, identified as Sunny Pushti, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH).
He had been critically injured during a clash on March 31, when two groups engaged in firing and a brutal assault with sharp weapons. Sunny sustained a gunshot injury to one eye and multiple blows to his head and hands.

Following his death, family members and local residents staged strong protests, first at TMH and later at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, where they placed the body and demanded justice. Tense situations arose at both locations, with instances of scuffles between protesters and police, prompting the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRT) to maintain order.

The family has alleged that the main accused are yet to be arrested and demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh along with security for the victim’s family. They also accused the hospital of halting treatment during the course of care and called for the waiver of the pending medical bills.

Another injured, Nandu Lohar, had earlier been discharged after treatment. Police had recovered two bullets and two empty cartridges from the scene.

Authorities confirmed that four accused have been arrested so far, while raids are ongoing to apprehend others involved. Sitaramdera police station in-charge Anand Mishra stated that the situation was brought under control after assurances of appropriate action and assistance were given to the agitating family.
The area remains under close police watch to prevent any further escalation.
