Jamshedpur city’s transport system transformation in 2024

Focus on reducing pollution with improved public transport

Jamshedpur, April 2: Tata Steel along with the Jharkhand government and the East Singhbhum district administration are working on a mission to transform the transport system in the steel city by the year 2024.

Under this, the public transport system has to be improved and the number of two wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers on the roads has to be reduced so that the pollution level can be reduced.

As per the recommendation of the 15th Finance Commission, the civic bodies had entered into an MoU with BIT Mesra. Under this, in the year 2022 such factors were searched due to which pollution spreads more here. Among these, the pollution spread by vehicles was considered to be the main factor. It was also found that more polluting vehicles were found on the roads. Apart from buses and autos, other public transport facilities are less. For this reason people use private vehicles and three wheelers more. Emphasis has been laid on improving the public transport system to reduce pollution.

Under the mission, bus services will be further improved in the city. At present, there are many such areas, where earlier there were bus services, but now the buses do not run. Bus services will be improved in those areas. The target is to operate low floor CNG and AC bus service through the municipal bodies of Jamshedpur, Mango and Jugsalai. For this, 250 buses will be required.

Dimna Chowk will be the stand of long distance buses. By the year 2024, the stand of long distance buses will be shifted near Mango Dimna Chowk. A model bus stand will be built here. This will reduce the entry of big vehicles in the city to a great extent.

Public transport system will be improved: Champai

State Transport Minister Champai Soren told that the public transport system of Jamshedpur will be improved. Its action plan is being prepared in collaboration with Tata Steel and state government and district administration.

According to the plan, diesel autos have to be discontinued and converted to CNG. Apart from this, permits will also be given to electronic vehicles. Whether some subsidy can be given to the auto drivers for this or not is under consideration. Auto drivers have been given ultimatum twice, but diesel autos have not been changed till now. All diesel autos will be converted by 2024. Two separate stands near Sakchi and Mango have also been approved.
