Jamshedpur citizens lend support to Patyushas parents seeking justice

Jamshedpur, June 8: Parents of Balika Badhu fame late TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee have launched a signature campaign seeking justice for their daughter.

The drive was launched at Sakchi. People in large numbers took part in it. We are fighting for a cause and nothing else. We want the truth to come out and nothing else so that the culprits are punished as per law, said an uncle.

Incidentally, Supreme Court on May 30 declined to end anticipatory bail of Rahul Raj Singh, accused of abetting the suicide of 24-year-old Pratyusha Banerjee. A vacation bench of justices P. C Ghose and Amitava Roy had refused to entertain the petition of Pratyushas mother Soma Banerjee.

Jamshedpur-born TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, popular for her portrayal of adult Anandi in the TV serial Balika Vadhu, allegedly committed suicide on April 1. Pratyusha hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her Kandivali residence, but was detected and taken to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her relatives however said that the actress was depressed with her personal life and her boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh. The two were in a serious relationship and planning to marry soon.

Hailing from Jamshedpur, the 24-year-old Pratyusha catapulted to fame with her role in Balika Vadhu between 2010 and 2013. She was later seen in the reality dance show “Jhalak Dikhla Ja-5,” “Bigg Boss-7” and hosted some episodes of “Savdhan India, and recently appeared in “Sasural Simar Ka.”
