Jamshedpur children to spread special glow this Diwali

Jamshedpur, Oct 14: Special children of Jamshedpur School of Hope with their diyas and candles will add sparkle to the festival of lights. Students of School of Hope have prepared diyas and candles. This year some teenagers have been roped in to help out with the accessories. At the School of Hope, 45 students are in the process of making 15,000 designer diyas.

“The aim is to train them well so that tomorrow, when they leave the special school, they can earn and live a life of dignity,” said an official.  These youngsters are generally divided into four levels based on their ability — both mental and physical — and expertise. For instance, those who are new to the craft are kept at level one while experienced hands comprise level four.

After a month’s hard work, they have come up with diyas decorated with colourful beads and painted with fabric colours. Some have also made candles of various shapes and sizes. Like every year the special children of School of Hope are making candles and diyas of different shapes, colour and sizes.  Plan is to make approx. ten thousand diya and more than one  thousand candles. Work is on and in full swing.

It is Diwali time and specially made wax and diyas are ready by special students at School of Hope and Parents Association for the Mentally Handicapped, Jamshedpur. The trainers at school have also trained them on rangoli painting which is making rangoli designs on the larger diyas and done with brighter colours. In fact with years of practice and art lessons in schools about four students in the age group of 20 have become artists and at times help their juniors too.

Some special children at the Parents Association for the Mentally Handicapped have also started making candles a month. The centre only specialises in candles and related fancy products. About seven members are involved in making gel candles, floating candles, scented candles and candles of various types. The maximum range for a candle is Rs 105. The centre will also place their kiosks in various schools to sell their products.
