Jamshedpur: A series of road accidents across East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts claimed two lives and left three others critically injured. The incidents, occurring near Chandil and Ghatshila, have sparked concerns over speeding vehicles and inadequate infrastructure on the National Highways.
Fatal Collision near Jayda Bridge
In a tragic accident under the Chandil police station limits, a 22-year-old youth lost his life, and his companion was left fighting for survival. The victims, identified as Bablu Murmu (22) of Jariadih and Mangal Tudu of Badalakha, were returning home from Chowka on a motorcycle around 6 PM on Wednesday.
As they approached Jayda Bridge on the National Highway, a speeding car coming from behind reportedly lost control and rammed into their bike. The impact flung both youths several feet from the vehicle, resulting in grievous injuries. While local residents and Chandil police rushed them to the Sub-Divisional Hospital, they were later referred to MGM Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur due to their deteriorating state. Doctors at MGM declared Bablu Murmu “brought dead,” while Mangal Tudu remains under medical supervision. The driver of the car fled the scene, and police are currently scanning CCTV footage to identify the vehicle.
Retired Official Killed in Ghatshila
In a separate incident near Phuldungri Chowk in Ghatshila, 70-year-old retired Circle Inspector Basant Kumar was killed while crossing National Highway-18 on Wednesday. A resident of Dhoradih, Kumar had visited the block office to process a residential certificate for his daughter. After finishing his work, he was crossing the road for tea when a car traveling from Kharagpur toward Jamshedpur knocked him down.
Though he was rushed to the Sub-Divisional Hospital and later referred to a higher medical center, he succumbed to his injuries en route. Following the mishap, the driver attempted to escape, but Gaaludih police intercepted the vehicle at the Putru Toll Plaza and handed the driver over to Ghatshila police. Local residents have expressed outrage over the accident, blaming the frequent mishaps at Phuldungri Chowk on the lack of a pedestrian underpass.
Two Injured in Musabani Accident
A third incident was reported from the Shastri Nagar area in Musabani, where a motorcycle accident left two young men seriously injured. They were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. While the exact cause of this crash is still under investigation, early reports suggest the motorcycle may have lost control and collided with a pole.
Police have initiated separate investigations into all three incidents to determine the exact causes and ensure legal action against the erring drivers.
