Jamshedpur, Aug 21: The executive committee of the Jamshedpur Central Durga Puja Committee held an important meeting on Wednesday at Hotel Misty Inn, Bhalubasa, to review preparations for the upcoming festival. The meeting was chaired by committee president Achintam Gupta, while General Secretary Ashutosh Singh welcomed members and invited auditor Pradeep Das to present last year’s financial report, which was unanimously approved.
Members held detailed discussions on challenges arising from last year’s experiences and this year’s preparations. With heavy rains expected, concerns were raised about poor road conditions, unfit puja venues and the urgent need for repairs at immersion ghats. “Immediate action must be taken to ensure the ghats are safe and usable,” members agreed.
The committee praised the district administration’s support during last year’s festivities and expressed hope for similar cooperation this year. Issues at Sitaramdera’s Swarnarekha Ghat, Beli Bodhan Ghat and Baroda Ghat will be formally taken up with the administration soon. Members also discussed the need for new ghats to accommodate the rising number of puja units.
Significantly, 13 new puja committees have joined the central body this year. The impact of Mango flyover construction on affected puja venues was also flagged for administrative intervention.
Zone officials were directed to coordinate with local puja committees to identify problems and suggest solutions. The next general meeting, scheduled for August 23, will see participation from all city puja committees.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks from working president Bhupendra Singh, while member Ram Babu Singh suggested that “all government and administrative instructions regarding puja preparations should be circulated to committees in advance to avoid last-minute confusion.”
