Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Ranjan outlined key preparations for the first phase of the Census of India 2027 during a press conference on Thursday. The district administration has already initiated groundwork to ensure the smooth execution of this national exercise.
Timeline and Self-Enumeration Facility
The census process begins with a dedicated window for citizens to submit their own data:
- Self-Enumeration Phase: Citizens can voluntarily submit their details via the official portal (https://se.census.gov.in) from May 1 to May 15, 2026.
- House Listing Phase: Enumerators will conduct the first official phase in Jharkhand from May 16 to June 14, 2026.
- Population Enumeration: The second phase, involving the actual population count, will take place from February 9 to February 28, 2027.
Data Collection and Resource Deployment
During the house listing phase, enumerators will use a questionnaire covering 33 key parameters. These include construction materials, ownership status, family composition, and access to basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and the internet.
To manage the district’s population, the administration has deployed an extensive workforce:
- Personnel: The district has engaged 4,602 enumerators and 778 supervisors for field operations.
- Administrative Structure: Officials have appointed 22 census officers and 15 assistant charge officers.
- Zoning: The administration has divided the district into 4,809 blocks, each covering roughly 600 to 800 individuals.
Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Ranjan emphasized that accurate census data forms the bedrock for policy formulation and welfare schemes. He urged all residents to cooperate fully and provide complete information to ensure the success of the exercise.
