Jamshedpur celebrates World Tribal Day with vibrant events

Jamshedpur, August 9: Jamshedpur marked World Tribal Day with a series of colourful and diverse events on Friday, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region’s indigenous communities. The main celebration, organized by the Adivasi Chhatra Ekta Central Committee, took place at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur, drawing a large gathering of tribal students and youth from the Kolhan region.

The event saw participation from various tribal communities including Ho, Santhal, Munda, Bhumij, Mahali, Kharia, and Gond. Hundreds of participants donned traditional costumes and played indigenous musical instruments, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Josai Mardi, chief patron of Adivasi Chhatra Ekta, emphasized that the program focused on empowering tribal youth as agents of change, echoing the United Nations’ theme for World Tribal Day.

The celebration at Gopal Maidan featured 25 stalls showcasing tribal costumes, musical instruments, books, and traditional food and drinks. These stalls proved to be a major attraction for visitors.

Concurrent events were held across Jamshedpur to mark the occasion. The Adivasi Mahasabha organized discussions at Baridih Shakuntala Udyan, while Ghaghi Buru Pudsi Majhi Akhara conducted a puja and public meeting at Baghbeda Sido-Kanhu Ground. Adivasi Ekta Manch held a bike rally from Professor Digambar Hansda Chowk to Tilka Majhi Stadium Baliguma.

Other notable events included an Adivasi Ekta Shobha Yatra from Baba Tilka Majhi Chowk Dimna to Dharti Aba Birsa Munda Sakchi roundabout, a bike rally organized by Sarjamda Pudsi Pinda from EGL Ground, and a cultural program at Govindpur Primary School Ground by Samajik Seva Sangh.
