Jamshedpur braces for temperature spike over next 72 Hours

Jamshedpur:  The city is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures over the next 72 hours, according to a forecast issued today by the Ranchi Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum temperature across Jharkhand is expected to increase by 3-5°C during this period.

Meteorologists have indicated that the entire state will witness a notable uptick in temperatures, contributing to hot and humid conditions. Particularly in the north-western regions of Jharkhand, isolated areas may experience intense heat and humidity today. The discomfort index, a measure that combines heat and humidity to indicate the level of human discomfort, is also predicted to rise, making the conditions more challenging for residents.

Despite the looming heatwave, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places in the northeastern parts of the state today. These weather phenomena may provide temporary relief from the heat but are not expected to have a significant cooling effect on the overall temperature.

The recent severe cyclonic storm Remal, which originated in the Bay of Bengal and made landfall on the West Bengal coast on Sunday night, has now diminished in intensity. The cyclone had a significant impact initially, but its effects have subsided. However, Remal has left behind substantial moisture in the atmosphere, leading to an increase in relative humidity across the region. This residual moisture is a contributing factor to the heightened discomfort index.

“We are expecting a sharp rise in temperatures across Jharkhand over the next three days. The increased heat and humidity will likely lead to uncomfortable conditions, especially in the north-western parts of the state,” said a spokesperson from the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to cope with the heat. Staying hydrated, avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and wearing light, breathable clothing are recommended. Additionally, the possibility of thunderstorms suggests that people should be cautious of sudden weather changes and take shelter during such events.

As Jamshedpur and the rest of Jharkhand brace for the upcoming temperature rise, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and prepared. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
