Jamshedpur: Residents of Jharkhand are bracing for a fresh wave of cold weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a drop in minimum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius starting this Saturday. The Ranchi Meteorological Centre confirmed that no significant synoptic conditions are currently prevailing over the state, but the impending change is attributed to the dominance of north-westerly winds.
The IMD highlighted two key weather phenomena influencing the atmospheric conditions: Induced Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan, currently located over Haryana at an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level. A persistent Cyclonic Circulation over Southeast Rajasthan at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Though these systems are not expected to cause significant weather changes in Jharkhand, the north-westerly currents following their dissipation will lead to a noticeable dip in temperatures.
The minimum temperature across several districts showed marginal fluctuations today. However, a rise in temperature is anticipated until Friday, after which the mercury will begin to fall, heralding a colder weekend. City-Wise Minimum Temperatures (Jan 23): Ranchi: 12°C , Jamshedpur: 12.8°C ,Bokaro: 11.2°C and Daltonganj: 11.8°C. The coldest regions in the state were Gumla, recording a biting 7.8°C, followed by Chatra at 8.6°C.
Meteorologists attribute the upcoming temperature drop to the strengthening of north-westerly winds, which typically bring colder air masses during the winter season. This trend is expected to impact both rural and urban areas, increasing the chill factor, particularly during early mornings and late evenings.
