Board Exams 2026: Section 163 BNSS Imposed Around Jamshedpur Exam Centres; Mobile Phones and Gathering Banned

Jamshedpur: To ensure the fair, peaceful and malpractice-free conduct of the Annual Matric and Intermediate Examinations, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dhalbhum, Jamshedpur, Arnav Mishra, has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in areas surrounding examination centres across the sub-division.

According to the official order, the restrictions will remain in force from February 3 to February 23, 2026, between 6.00 am and 10.00 pm, covering all examination centres and a 100-metre radius around them. The decision has been taken to prevent any disturbance, unfair practices, or interference by unauthorised persons during the examination period.

Under the order, carrying mobile phones, electronic gadgets, books, notes or any material intended for cheating has been strictly prohibited. The gathering of more than five persons for sloganeering or public speeches near examination centres has also been banned. Additionally, carrying lethal weapons such as firearms, knives and lathis, bursting of firecrackers, and the use of loudspeakers for unlawful activities have been prohibited during the specified period.

However, the order provides exemptions to students appearing for examinations with valid admit cards, authorised examination personnel, government servants on official duty, as well as marriage processions, religious events and funeral ceremonies. Traditional religious items carried by Sikhs and Nepalis, such as kirpans and khukhris, have also been exempted.

The SDM has cautioned that any violation of the prohibitory order will invite strict action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant legal provisions. The district administration has appealed to the public to cooperate and help ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
