Jamshedpur, Nov 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organize a series of events across Jharkhand to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. Addressing a press conference at the party’s Jamshedpur office, former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Raghubar Das said, “India’s tribal community laid the foundation of the freedom struggle long before 1857. From Tilka Manjhi to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, our tribal heroes created a glorious history of courage and sacrifice.”

He recalled several tribal uprisings — including the Chuar Rebellion (1767), Paharia Movement (1778), Kol Rebellion (1831), Santhal Hul (1855) and the Ulgulan (1899) — that “planted the seeds of India’s independence and stood as a symbol of self-respect and freedom.”

Das said that for decades, the sacrifices of tribal heroes were ignored, but “Prime Minister Narendra Modi revived those forgotten chapters of history.” He added, “Unlike other parties that treat tribals as a vote bank, the BJP considers them an integral part of its family.”

Highlighting government initiatives, Das mentioned the PESA Act, Forest Rights Act, Van Dhan Yojana, TRIFOOD scheme and PM Janman Yojana worth ₹15,000 crore, aimed at empowering tribal communities. He urged the Jharkhand government to implement the PESA Act immediately.

Das also announced that BJP would organize weeklong cultural programs showcasing tribal art, dance and traditions. “Walking on the path shown by Birsa Munda — of self-respect, self-reliance and cultural pride — will be our true tribute to him,” he said.
