Jamshedpur, March 13: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Abhay Singh has been accused of deterring government servants from discharging their work in an old case lodged by Sakchi police. He has received a notice from Sakchi police station in this connection, sources said.
Sources said Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code has been added in the FIR lodged against Abhay Singh and 51 others in a case of violation of COVID-19 guidelines on 2nd November last. Police had booked 12 persons by name and 40 unidentified persons in this case.
The case was lodged during Durga puja when a dispute arose on the issue of distribution of bhog (khichdi) among the devotees at Kasidih Durga Puja pandal in Sakchi. The then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Suraj Kumar had asked the puja organizers not to distribute bhog as per COVID-19 guidelines.
Asked about the police notice, the BJP leader said he was shocked by the police move. He said he had complained to SSP M Tamil Vanan and sought a probe into the case. “I will not seek bail. The new section has been added to harass me. The protest strategy would soon be chalked out,” he said.
Last year, various Hindu outfits had staged demonstration across the city after the bhog controversy.
