Jamshedpur, April 21: The BJP units of Mango, Azadnagar and Ulidih demonstrated at the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) office while party leaders and members of its Jugsalai unit held protests at the office of Jugsalai Municipality on Thursday demanding basic civic amenities that people of the two zones were being deprived of. A large number of BJP leaders and workers led by Mango Mandal President Binod Rai, Azadnagar Mandal President Fatima Shaheen and Ulidih Mandal President Amarendra Paswan held fort at the MMC office demanding immediate provision of basic facilities to the people in Mango areas. The memorandums handed over to the two Special Officers of MMC and Jugsalai Municipality respectively in which anomalies were mentioned and demand for setting things in order was stated. Protesters at both offices held agitations with slogans and placards demanding immediate execution of work failing which, the BJP would be forced to agitate. They raised slogans against the MMC and Jugsalai Municipality accusing them of neglecting the needs of the people.

The memorandums stated that people in both command areas of MMC and Jugsalai were being deprived of basic civic facilities. Piling garbage on streets and alleys, clogged and overflowing drains, power crisis, perennial paucity of drinking and potable water, possibilities of accidents due to poor maintenance of streetlights and roads, unkempt park (MMC), non-functional hand pumps crying for repairs over a long period of time and many others and many other ills were mentioned and demand for immediate solution to the stated ills in the memorandums be provided.
BJP members marched to the MMC office with posters, placards and anti establishment slogans. The BJP workers raised the slogan of, “No Water-No Bill, No Facility-No Holding Tax’ against the government.
Addressing the protest at Mango Municipal Corporation office, BJP Mahanagar President Gunjan Yadav said that due to lack of proper cleanliness in various areas under Mango Municipal Corporation, filth was strewn around localities, piling garbage piles in residential areas were like landmarks of the MMC command areas. “The MMC concentrates on main thoroughfares while neglecting alleys and localities in matters of sanitation and garbage clearance. People are suffering because of power cuts that are erratic and non-scheduled. It seems, the MMC authorities are either unaware or have forgotten the purpose of setting up such Corporations. As a result, basic civic needs continue to be overlooked,” and continued, “The prevailing inhuman conditions are accentuated by the fact that even in the midst of this scorching summer, people are being subjected to water crisis. Fogging machines and bleaching powder spray have become things of the past. Garbage and filth overflow from clogged drains.”
The BJP Mahanagar President, Gunjan Yadav warned the MMC officials that if immediate steps were not taken to rectify the prevailing ills, the party would be forced to take the path of agitation.
At the same time, while demonstrating at the Jugsalai Municipality office, District General Secretaries Rakesh Singh and Anil Modi said, “BJP has demanded immediate execution of work to solve the demands highlighted in the memorandum. If the demands are not met within an early time frame, the Municipality officials would be made to experience the problems that people were being forced to face. We will cut off the power supply to the office. The BJP is registering its protest at all Municipal areas of the state on the call of our party’s state leadership. Our agitation will unearth corrupt officials of the corrupt government.”
