Jamshedpur: Bhagwan Singh elected Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee president

Beats Harminder Singh Mindi and Mahendra Singh in one-sided fight

Jamshedpur, Jan 11: In a one-sided fight, Bhagwan Singh, president of Mango Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, registered an easy victory in the elections held on Wednesday for the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC). Singh, received 170 votes out of 185.  

A total of 185 people voted out of 211. In the end, Bhagwan Singh emerged as a clear winner bagging 170 votes. On the other hand, Singh’s arch-rival Harminder Singh Mindi ended up with a total of 10 votes while Mahendra Singh received a total of three votes. Two votes were rejected, after which Bhagwan Singh was declared the winner with a huge margin.

Earlier, the triennial elections of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) began under tight security at its office located at the Sakchi Gurudwara premises on Wednesday.

After the results, Bhagwan Singh and his supporters took out a procession. Senior Sikh leaders Sardar Shailendra Singh, Inderjit Singh, President of Telco Workers Union Gurmit Singh Tote, Committee Member of Tata Workers Union and BJMO leader Joginder Singh Jogi were present along with supporters of Bhagwan Singh.

211 voters from 34 Gurudwaras and outfits like Central Stree Satsang Sabha as well as Akali Dal Central Naujawan Sabha exercised used their franchise to elect the president.

Those in the fray for the post of president were Bhagwan Singh, Mahendra Singh Bojha and Harvinder Singh Mindi.  Once the elections are over, a new executive committee under the new president will be set up for running the CGPC which represents the interest of people belonging to the Sikh community in Kolhan.

According to a source in the CGPC office, polling was held in presence of two executive magistrates under videography.  “Except the Tinplate Gurudwara, functionaries of all the Gurdwaras from across the twin districts of Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan participated in the elections, ” said the officials.

The Tinplate Gurudwara was out of the CGPC elections due to some persisting disputes in the Committee.
