Jamshedpur Bar members protest detention of lawyer on rape charge

Jamshedpur, Mar 27: Jamshedpur Bar Association members went on strike on Saturday to protest West Singhbhum police arresting Sidhgora resident and an advocate by profession Virendra Singh from under Noamundi thana on charges of rape. The lawyers also burnt effigy of police and termed the arresting as illegal. 
The wildcat strike called by the lawyers caused problem for the litigants at the Jamshedpur Court premises. The Bar Association members also cancelled the Holi Milan program scheduled later in the day. 
Significantly, a woman from Patamda had lodged a case against the advocate at Noamundi thana and during the course of investigation police found the charges to be true and initiated steps for arresting of Virendra Singh and finally arrested him on Friday night and took him to Noamundi. 
Jamshedpur Bar Association secretary Anil Tiwary has accused Noamundi police of implicating the advocate in the case and threatened to stage phase wise agitation against police action. 


Meanwhiile, Noamundi thana inspector Laxman Prasad said that the advocate has not been arrested but has been picked up for questioning after lodging of FIR on the basis of complaint. 
The thana inspector said that a woman from Patamda had lodged a complaint case at the court in which it is stated that she had come to Jamshedpur seeking job in Tata Steel and the said advocate had established physical relation with her against her wish. The police are trying to find out if the woman knows the advocate or not and if the accusation are correct. 
Kolhan DIG Rajiv Ranjan denied aware of the incident and said that only after investigation it can be known if the accusation are right or wrong and said that if the family members of the lawyer approach him then he would try to take up the case on personal level and ensure justice.
