Jamshedpur, March 21: The construction of a box bridge near the Inspector’s Office and Sidhu-Kanhu Ground on the road connecting Tatanagar Station to Bagbera Baroda Ghat is nearing completion. The project, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore, has reached its final stage, though it has exceeded its original 15-month deadline.
According to the Road Construction Department, the project is being executed by a Chaibasa-based agency. While the main structure of the bridge is complete, work on approach roads, earth-cutting, and guardwalls is still pending and is expected to be completed soon.
The project has been a long-standing demand of local residents. Under the leadership of Subodh Jha, President of the Bagbera Mahanagar Vikas Samiti, several protests and movements have been held since 2005. A memorandum was also submitted to former Chief Minister Raghubar Das in 2015, and the issue was strongly supported by local leaders.
Following intervention at the state level, the project was approved and work commenced. Junior Engineer Jitendra Mishra stated that the bridge construction is expected to be completed by May 2026. Additionally, tenders for black-topping the connecting road will be floated soon. Authorities hope that completion before the monsoon will provide much-needed relief to commuters.
