Jamshedpur all set to welcome New Year, security beefed up

Jamshedpur, Dec 31: Jamshedpur police claim that security will be beefed up in and around the city on the occasion of New Year celebrations. Extra forces will be deployed on picnic spots, restaurants, parks, malls, and in cinema halls so that people can welcome the New Year 2023 peacefully.

Police have made special arrangements so that no nuisance could be created by the antisocial elements on the picnic spots. “We have deployed static force on the picnic spots to prevent instances of eve teasing and loot, besides extra patrolling parties on the roads,” SSP Prabhat Kumar said.

All the picnic spots will have proper security arrangements on the New Year. “Proper arrangements have been made so that no picnic spot remains untouched by the police during the season,” said a police official. He also added that to tackle eve-teasers, policemen in plain clothes will also be deployed to keep a close eye on them.

As the number of accidents increases during the season, police have warned people through advertisements in Television and Newspapers that rash driving will not be tolerated on the roads and will be punished if found to be breaking any law. Police party will patrol on the roads during the season. “We cannot do much about the traffic but drunken drivers will definitely be booked by our men,” said a police official.

Talking about the problem of drunken drivers, he also warned people that they should drive carefully as people will be on high during the celebrations. “Drinking and driving should not be mixed,” said the traffic official.

Patrolling teams will also include women constables. The idea is to prevent eve-teasing cases and ensure that nobody is able to forcibly enter picnic spots and party venues. Ladies constables will also be deployed in some of the sensitive areas marked by the police to tackle the eve teasers. They have been instructed to take action immediately if any instance of eve-teasing is found around them. “We are dedicated to providing a peaceful atmosphere to the people for New Year celebrations and we are doing our best for that,” he said.

“During this season eve-teasing cases register an increase at the picnic spots so the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,” said an official of the district women’s cell.

The policemen in plain clothes, with batons and torch, will move around in the parks to guard the picnickers. In addition to this police patrolling will be increased at weekends in the park areas.

“We have come to know that several vehicle owners are hoodwinking the police by using Press or police stickers.  As the cops who are engaged in carrying out the arms-checking do not want to indulge in unnecessary arguments with the people having Press or Police tag on their vehicles, this has become a trick for the anti-socials to evade the police action in the guise of such stickers.  But we will not allow any fake person to escape with the  stickers as mentioned above,” said the police official.

He said that they had convened a special meeting of the police officers assigned to carry out the checking of arms or helmets in the city, and had categorically briefed them that whoever is using a Press or Police sticker must show a valid I-card.

“In the event of anyone fails to produce a valid I-card, then the police officer concerned will immediately strip the sticker off the vehicle and subsequently prosecute the person for cheating the police,” said the official.
