Nagar Kirtan procession to commence from Sonari Gurudwara today

Jamshedpur, Nov 14: Jamshedpur is set to celebrate the auspicious Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev Ji with a grand Nagar Kirtan procession, which will be taken out from Sonari Gurudwara on November 15. Organized by the CGPC in honour of the first Sikh Guru’s birth anniversary, the procession will bring together devotees from across the city in a display of devotion and unity.

A total of 34 Gurudwaras throughout Kolhan are decorated for the occasion, in accordance with the directives from the Central Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (CGPC).

The Nagar Kirtan is scheduled to commence at 11:30 am from Sonari Gurudwara, following a designated route that includes notable points such as Sonari Bazaar, Aerodrome, Circuit House Roundabout, Keenan Stadium, and culminating at Sakchi Gurudwara by 5 pm.

The Nagar Kirtan will see participants singing hymns and devotional songs to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings of peace, humility, and service to humanity. Sikh youth groups and volunteers are also expected to join in with traditional Gatka martial arts demonstrations along the route.

The procession is anticipated to be a vibrant and spiritual event, with decorations and displays representing Sikh heritage and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy of equality and compassion.

Earlier, a special prayer session and langar (community meal) for all will be organised at Sonari Gurudwara.

This year, there will be no fireworks, a departure from past celebrations. Instead, the Palki Sahib will receive a warm welcome at Sakchi Gurudwara with a floral shower, and 42 welcome gates will line the route to enhance the festive ambiance. Traffic management for the Nagar Kirtan has been entrusted to the Central Singh Naujawan Sabha.

As one of the most significant Sikh festivals, Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Parv is celebrated worldwide, and the Jamshedpur Nagar Kirtan procession is expected to attract a large number of devotees and visitors.
