Jamshedpur, Nov 12:  A chaotic atmosphere prevailed at Kandra railway station at about 3 pm when sparks flew and loud bursts rang out as people ran helter-skelter to save themselves. According to eyewitness reports, electric wiring work was being executed along the foot over bridge at the station for installation of halogen lamps. Accidentally, a bunch of wires fell on the 25,000 KVA electric wires that triggered off sparks and blasts at 20 places. Passengers on the platforms started running wildly. The situation would have been compounded had it not been for the alertness of RPF personnel on duty ASI Nagendra Singh, jawans Pradip Kumar Khatua and PC Yadav who saw a goods train arriving at the station. They rushed ahead to calm the people and signaled to the engine driver of the goods train to stop. The goods train was brought to a halt at a little distance from the station. Four electricians working at installing the wires would have been seriously injured but were pulled away at the nick of time by the RPF personnel. Later Congress district spokesperson Prakash Kumar Raju said that a high level probe would be demanded from the GM Garden Reach. He said that the workers were executing orders without provision of proper shoes, safety helmets and belts. Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda has been informed of the incident.
