Jamshedpur advocates boycott work, insist on sitting inside bar building

Jamshedpur, June 5: The on-going agitation by advocates continued on the second day too. They created uproar at the Jamshedpur court premises on Friday. Advocating permission to sit in the bar building, the advocates met the district judge and urged him that they should be allowed to sit in the bar building citing trouble.

However, the district judge refused to grant permission citing the High Court order. In view of lockdown, a box has been placed near the gate outside the court premises. In this, from 8 to 10 am, advocates file a petition for bail and other matters. The box is opened and then online hearing is held in the case. During this time, the advocates stand in the sun. They are not allowed to go to court.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, work is being done online in the court on the direction of the High Court. In the new system, the advocates have to stand and work outside the court premises. Advocates are angry over the locking of the old bar building and the opening of the new bar building. Some lawyers were seen sitting inside the bar building. This led advocates creating a ruckus. When the protest increased, the police force was deployed.
District Bar Association officials also intervened and drove everyone out of the court premises. Even after this, the advocates continued to protest. Eventually the advocates decided that they would not work until a seating area was assigned to them. There was an uproar on the same issue on the second day also. District Bar Association President Ajit Kumar Ambasta said a delegation met District and Sessions Judge Manoj Prasad and submitted a memorandum to him.
