Jamshedpur: Covid cases are on decline in the city but the recent surge in Covid cases in Delhi has created concerns all over. Irrespective of the COVID fear people are stepping out to make purchases for the most awaited festival of the year Diwali. With the festival just a couple of days away the crowd will only swell.

The health department has time and again urged people to strictly follow COVID rules to stop the spread of the virus but it seems there is no room for any norm to be followed. The crowd almost equals to the pre-covid times in the past few days he noted.

After a gap of 96 hours, two deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in the city. One of the victims was 46 year old resident of Telco Gawala Basti while the other was 69 year old woman from Baridih. Both the patients were suffering from other ailments apart from being tested corona positive. The total of deaths reported in the city is 358.

The district administration has asked all authorities to focus on adopting extra preparedness measures in view of the festive season and to ensure that the COVID protocol is in place in all shops and establishments and markets where people are likely to congregate. The death toll has increased to 358 with first causality being reported on July 4. The city witnessed its first COVID death when a 71-year-old man who was a resident of Sonari died at the Tata Main Hospital on July 4. The positive cases have crossed 16000 marks however active cases are only 1180.

“Sudden death has brought the authorities on toes however; we will continue to take preventive measures. We need to be careful during the festive season. Any kind of environmental pollution could be hazardous for Covid patients who have residual symptoms along with breathing difficulties due to lung fibrosis. With Diwali round the corner, bursting of crackers will add more suspended particulate matter to the atmosphere and could severely affect patients with lung diseases,” said an official.
