Jamshedpur Administration forcibly stops prasad distribution at Kasidih Durga Puja Pandal

Puja organisers threaten not to immerse idol till admin apologises

Jamshedpur, October 13: There was public resentment as East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar allegedly forcibly stopped the distribution of prasad among devotees from the 95-year-old temple in Kashidih today.

After the video went viral in this regard, this news spread like wildfire and people started walking towards Kashidih Durga Puja pandal. The office bearers of the puja committee and members of Hindu religion outfits gathered at the spot and condemned administration stance.

According to reports, around 2 pm, the Deputy Commissioner reached the temple of Kashidih Durga Puja  and drove away people taking bhogs in queue.

BJP leader Abhay Singh, the patron of Durga Puja Committee, reached the spot after knowing about this and questioned the Deputy Commissioner the reason for this which led to a heated argument between them.

While the Deputy Commissioner was adamant on strict abeyance of Covid guidelines for Durga puja which prohibits distribution of bhogs and prasads in the puja pandals, Abhay Singh also argued that people were taking bhog in a queue and returning home and that they would not tolerate ill treatment of devotees at the hand of the district administration.

Abhay Singh speaking to media argued that the district administration should have held talks with the committee first, then would have taken action only if they had not relented.

“But instead people taking bhogs were threatened and driven away. I would like to ask administration how much Covid guidelines is being followed in the city,” said Abhay Singh.

Abhay Singh said that it happened for the first time in the city that a district magistrate came to the temple and was insulting the devotees.

Abhay Singh threatened that the idol of Kashdih Puja will not be immersed till the district administration apologise for the act.

Abhay Singh has also sough support from all the Hindutva organizations and public representatives of the city.

“If distributing prasad from the temple becomes a crime, then the district administration should tell from where the bhog should be distributed. We will not immerse the idol, if the administration wants they can forcibly get the idol immersed,” said Singh and questioned the district administration that under whose pressure they are working.
