Jamshedpur: In a tragic accident early Thursday morning, two persons, including a woman, lost their lives after the Scooty they were riding was hit by a speeding bus on National Highway 33 near Barabanki, about 25 km from the city.

The incident occurred around 8:00 AM when the victims, identified as Rajesh Soren (43) and Anjana Mahto (34), were en route from Pardih to their company’s Barabanki office.

According to police, the bus — a Pani Coach bound for Bhubaneswar from Jamshedpur — struck the Scooty from behind, causing both riders to be thrown off the vehicle.

The Scooty remained lodged in the bonnet of the bus, which continued moving for nearly two kilometers before coming to a halt.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle with passengers still onboard. Local police arrived promptly and rushed the injured victims to MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH), where both succumbed to their injuries within hours.

Despite their critical condition, the victims remained conscious for a brief period. During this time, Rajesh Soren was able to share details about his family residing in Zone No. 10, Birsanagar.

It was later confirmed by Soren’s widow that both victims were employees of Astha Company, traveling between its Pardih and Barabanki offices at the time of the accident.

Police have since seized the bus and launched a search for the absconding driver. An investigation is currently underway.
