Jamshedpur: 55-year-old man run over by goods train near Loco

Jamshedpur, April 4: A tragic incident occurred in the outskirts of the city, where a man was run over by a goods train. According to initial reports, the man was crossing the railway tracks when the incident took place.

The 55-year-old man was run over by a goods train near Tatanagar Loco drop-gate under the Tatanagar GRP police station area on Tuesday. The mishap took place while the man was crossing the railway tracks even after the drop-gate was in place in view of the approaching trains in that stretch.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the man seemed to be in a hurry and was trying to cross the tracks before the train approached. Unfortunately, he misjudged the speed of the oncoming train and was hit by it. The train driver reportedly applied the emergency brakes, but it was too late to avoid the collision.

Soon after the mishap took place, a team of Railway Protection Force officials reached the spot and removed the body to the MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem.

Incidentally, the victim was standing in one of the tracks on which one of the trains was coming and eventually ran over in full view of several bystanders beyond the drop-gate.

The police and railway authorities were immediately alerted about the incident, and they rushed to the spot. The body of the man was recovered and sent for post-mortem, while the train was halted for a few hours for investigations.

Authorities have urged the public to be more cautious when crossing railway tracks and to use designated crossings to avoid such accidents. They have also warned that crossing railway tracks is illegal and can be dangerous, as trains can approach at high speeds and without warning.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for greater awareness about railway safety and the importance of following rules and regulations. The authorities have assured that they will continue to take steps to improve railway safety and prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
