Jamshedpur/Chaibasa, Mar 29: Four people lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries as a car in which they were travelling rammed into a road side parked trailer at Piligada under Haat Gamharia Police Station area of the West Singhbhum district today.
Police sources said that occupants of the car were residents of Batiya Basti of Kadma in Jamshedpur and families of two friends were travelling in the vehicle. The passengers were on their way to Kiriburu to see the ailing father in-law of Amit Kumar Das (46), one of the deceased.
The other deceased were identified as Sayonika Das (17), daughter of Amit Kumar Das, Soren Karmakar (45) and his wife Kakoli Karmakar (38). Those who sustained serious injuries included wife of Amit, Soma Das and daughter of Soren Karmakar, Somita. The injured were sent to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur for better treatment.
Sources said the incident occurred around 10.45 am when the railway level crossing on the Jhinkpani-Haat Gamharia road had just opened. The car carrying the victims reportedly hit the dumper at high speed. The impact was so powerful that four persons died at the scene. Others sustained critical injuries. They were rushed to hospital by the local residents and commuters.
