Jamshedpur, April 17: After a long delay and lot of suspense-riddled drama, the plan for the construction of 20 rooms in the Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School will finally see the light of day as Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency MLA Saryu Roy on Monday laid the foundation stone for the project to get underway.
It may be mentioned that an amount of Rs 1.30 crore had been allotted during the FY 2008-’09 for the construction of 20 rooms in the Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School. The authorities sat over the allocated funds and the purpose for 11 years before returning the fund to the government on May 20, 2019.
But the irony of it all was the fact that the Jamshedpur division of the Building Construction Department had declared the school building ‘condemned’ on January 10, 2019 and accordingly the structure was pulled down in August the same year. But knowingly or otherwise, the authorities concerned sat on their haunches and turned their Nelson’s eye to the fact and purpose that 20 new rooms were to be constructed at the vacant place with the funds already allocated. The sting of this neglect was being felt by the students of the Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School who were compelled to carry on with their studies in the adjacent Muslim High School since 2019.
After being elected MLA from Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency in December 2020, Saryu Roy visited the Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School and the school’s Headmaster narrated the story of the sorry state of affairs of the institution.
MLA Saryu Roy immediately held discussions with the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum and vide a letter in January 2021 to the Education Department sent a proposal for the new building which was passed.
In August 2021, an approval for Rs 1,68,38,000 was allocated for the construction of 20 rooms in Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School. Yet the delay in construction persisted. This prompted Legislator Saryu Roy to raise the issue during the Jharkhand Assembly’s Budget Session in March, ’23. This resulted in the State Government’s assurance to get the construction job done at the earliest.
The effect was seen today as Independent MLA Saryu Roy laid the foundation stone stone for the construction of 20 rooms in the Sitaramdera Upgraded Adivasi High School to realize the long awaited, long cherished but long delayed dreams of the citizens of tomorrow. Those present on the occasion included District Education Officer Nirmala Barelia, District Engineer Prabhakar, Headmaster Chhotan Lohra, MLA representative SP Singh and former Headmaster Lal Bahadur Singh, MP representatives Chandra Shekhar Mishra, Sudhir Singh, Hariram Singh, Ajay Sinha, Amit Sharma, Manoj Singh Ujjain, Sumit Sahu and Vivek Pandey.
