Iran President Pezeshkian Talks to PM Modi; Proposes Regional Security Pact

Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has proposed a new security structure comprised exclusively of West Asian nations to ensure regional stability without foreign interference. In a high-stakes phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s specific conditions for ending the current conflict following the joint U.S. and Israeli strikes.

Preconditions for Peace

According to the official IRNA news agency, President Pezeshkian outlined two primary requirements for a cessation of hostilities: an immediate end to U.S. and Israeli “aggression” and formal guarantees that such attacks will not occur in the future. The President strongly condemned the February 28 attacks that claimed the lives of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and numerous civilians, while also devastating public infrastructure.

Pezeshkian also used the platform to reject claims by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s nuclear intentions. He emphasized that the late Supreme Leader was fundamentally opposed to atomic weapons and had issued specific decrees to prevent their development, contradicting the White House’s justification for continued military action.

India Calls for Maritime Security

Prime Minister Modi voiced “deep concern” over the escalating regional tensions during the conversation. The Prime Minister strongly condemned any attacks on regional energy infrastructure and urged all parties to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz. Modi emphasized the necessity of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Gulf, a critical corridor for India’s energy security.

The conflict, which escalated following the February 28 strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, has seen Iran respond with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli territory and U.S. bases across the Middle East.
