Investigate Former RIMS Director Dr Rajkumar’s Letter, Saryu Roy Urges Govt

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has demanded that Chief Minister Hemant Soren investigate a letter that former RIMS Director Dr. Rajkumar wrote to the Health Minister on June 8.

Roy alleged that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) interrogated Dr. Rajkumar for eight hours. This interrogation deeply hurt Dr. Rajkumar, ultimately prompting his resignation.

Before stepping down, he had sent a letter to the state health minister on June 8. In the letter containing 22 points, Dr. Rajkumar alleged that the additional chief secretary of the health department acted maliciously against him, kept the governing council in the dark, and harassed him.

Roy stated that the former director’s letter reveals how authorities pressured both the RIMS governing body and Dr. Rajkumar personally on multiple matters. “Despite explicit orders from the judiciary, certain officials attempted to take arbitrary action against him and harass him through false cases. Roy noted that this letter shines a bright light on the irregular and dysfunctional operations within RIMS and the health department,” the MLA said.

Target Against an Achiever

Roy pointed out that Dr. Rajkumar belongs to a scheduled category and has previously executed several high-level responsibilities with immense success, earning praise and honours on multiple occasions.

“It is unfortunate that whenever highly qualified directors take charge at RIMS, they are forced to leave prematurely for one reason or another,” Roy said. He described Dr. Rajkumar as an exceptionally qualified neurologist who successfully performed several complex neurosurgeries during his tenure at RIMS. Under these circumstances, it appears the government’s Health Department is exerting unnecessary pressure on RIMS operations.

According to Roy, Dr. Rajkumar wrote in his letter that during the 59th Governing Council meeting on April 16, 2025, individuals pressured and threatened him because he refused to clear “certain illegal payments” from a previous meeting. Roy warned that if such conditions persist, no qualified doctor will ever take up the role of RIMS Director or attempt to reform the institution’s work culture. He alleged that government interference remains the biggest cause of the growing chaos at RIMS.
