Jamshedpur, April 10: Internet services were restored from 7 pm on Monday in clash-hit Jamshedpur and its neighbourhood on April 10 after about a 19 hour suspension period since post midnight. The shutdown was promulgated in the aftermath of communal clashes at Shastri Nagar under Kadma police station area, as local authorities grappled to restore peace and maintain law and order.
The situation escalated on Sunday night to the point where Section 144 was imposed on Sunday night.

The police have arrested 100 suspects including BJP leader Abhay Singh.
The clashes erupted between two groups from different communities and quickly escalated, leading to widespread tension and violence. In a bid to control the situation and prevent the spread of misinformation, the local administration took the decision to suspend internet services in the area.

“We decided to suspend internet services in view of the prevailing situation. The locals have been asked to remain calm. Security has been beefed up,” said Vijaya Jadhav, deputy commissioner, East Singhbhum.
The suspension of internet services, which lasted for nearly 19 hours, had a significant impact on the daily lives of residents, as it disrupted communication, online transactions, and access to information. Social media platforms and messaging apps were particularly affected, with users unable to share or receive updates about the situation in real-time.

Speaking about the decision to impose Section 144, which restricts public gatherings, a local official stated, “We had to take swift measures to prevent the situation from further deteriorating. Imposing Sec 144 was a necessary step to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation of the clashes.”

Local authorities have been working tirelessly to restore normalcy in the area, and efforts are underway to ensure that communal harmony is maintained. Security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents, and the situation is being closely monitored.

The suspension of internet services and imposition of Sec 144 has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some residents understand the need for these measures to restore peace and prevent the spread of misinformation, others have expressed concerns about the impact on their daily lives and access to information.
As the situation in Kadma remains tense, local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to restore normalcy. Residents are urged to cooperate with the authorities and maintain communal harmony, while also being cautious about the information they share on social media and other online platforms.
