Inter-Steel Plant Basketball Championship: Tata Steel ranked second

Jamshedpur, Feb. 1: The inter-steel plant Basketball Championship 2015-16 was held at Bellary (Karnataka) from January 29 to 31.

The tournament was organized by Jindal Steel Limited and a total of eleven teams participated in the championship, which was divided into two groups. In the group stage, the matches were played on a round robin league basis. Tata Steel, after winning five games on the trot, lost to Bhilai Steel plant in the final by 36-68 points.

After the group stage round-robin competition, Tata Steel team finished in the first spot in their group standings and therefore, clashed in the semi-final with a strong team from Jindal Steel (JSWL), the second topper from the other group.

In the league rounds, Tata Steel beat Indian Steel Plant, Burnpur, by 45 – 27 points, defeated Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur, by 49 – 28 points, beat Vishakapatnam Steel Plant, Vizag, by 53 – 37 points, got walk over against Durgapur Steel Plant, Durgapur, and defeated Jindal Steel, (JSWL) by 61 – 54 points in the semi-final. However, the Tata Steel cagers lost to Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai, in the final and were crowned runner-up.

Tata Steel team comprised of ten players. Tejindra Singh was the coach, while Naresh Unka Patel was the manager of the team.
