Inter-state meet of top cops held in Jamshedpur, new check-posts to come up

Jamshedpur: With elections due any time from now, the police administration is not willing to take any chance regarding security of extremism-hit areas of East Singhbhum. This was observed by top police officials on Wednesday.

Top cops of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand presided over a high-level meeting along with superintendents of police of the bordering districts to review the law and order situation in sensitive Maoist-hit areas. East Singhbhum SSP Anoop Birtharay was present at the meeting along with senior officials of CRPF and Cobra Battalion.

“During the meeting, police and paramilitary forces exchanged information regarding the movement of Maoists in areas of concern like Ghatshila, Patamda, Nimdih, Chandil, Saranda, and Kiriburu in Kolhan areas with Purulia, Burdwan and West Midnapore districts in Bengal and also with Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts in Odisha,” said an official.
Officials said that during today�s meeting, the officers in-charge of adjoining police stations between Bengal and Odisha also exchanged lists of Maoists as well as dreaded criminals.

“We have decided to set up 14 check-posts and revive around 20 police pickets in East Singhbhum district for round-the-clock vigil on the illegal movement of arms, liquor and money in the bordering areas between East Singhbhum district, Odisha and Bengal. Similar action would be initiated by Seraikela-Kharsawan police in their areas,� said Birtharay.
Sources said that out of 14, eight check-posts would be set up in bordering areas of Bengal and East Singhbhum while six check posts would be set up in bordering areas of Odisha and East Singhbhum district.

Sources informed that during the meeting, cops focused on issues like law and order situation in the three bordering districts, status of naxal activities and also the position of police as well as the para-military forces there.

The officials said that additional check posts would be set in bordering areas to put a check on movement of ultras. Adequate security arrangements would be made during elections to curb any untoward incidents.

The district administration has gone busy working out the security arrangements for the Maoist infested areas of the constituency. The civil and police administration are jointly framing in the blue print for the safe and secure elections this time around.
