Jamshedpur: In a significant breakthrough against the rising incidents of vehicle theft in the city, Jamshedpur Police have successfully dismantled an inter-district motorcycle theft gang, arresting four accused and recovering five stolen bikes.
Acting on directives from the Senior Superintendent of Police, a special task force—constituted under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police and led by the Patamda Deputy Superintendent—launched a targeted campaign against organized bike theft networks.
The operation gained momentum on April 4, when police, acting on specific intelligence, apprehended two habitual offenders along with a stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, the duo revealed crucial information about other members of the gang, prompting intensified police action.
Subsequently, on April 8, two more accused were arrested, leading to the recovery of two additional stolen motorcycles. Based on their disclosures, police further seized two more bikes from their residences, taking the total recovery to five stolen vehicles.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mithun Samad, Bapi Samad alias Brahmanand Samad, Sukhdev Lohra, and Basanti Samad.
Police records indicate that several of them have prior involvement in multiple theft and criminal cases across different police stations.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the gang comprises 8–10 members who systematically stole motorcycles from various parts of Jamshedpur and sold them in rural areas including Patamda, Bodam, Musabani, and adjoining regions.
Police officials confirmed that raids are ongoing to nab the remaining members of the gang, and further revelations are expected as the investigation progresses. (
