Institution of Engineers celebrate Environment Day with tree plantation drive

Jamshedpur, June 5: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jamshedpur Local Centre, marked World Environment Day with a special programme promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. This year’s global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution”, was the focus of the event, which encouraged individuals and communities to adopt eco-friendly practices.

The celebration began with a tree plantation drive on the Institution’s premises, led by senior members of the Executive Committee including Dr. Shalendra Kumar, Er. U. Singhal, Dr. S. K. Narang, A. K. Das, Er. N. Rajesh Kumar, Sourav Goel, and Chairman Er. Satish Kumar. Many other members and guests also participated in the initiative.

The event was coordinated by Krishnendu Shaw. In his welcome address, Er. Satish Kumar, Chairman of Jamshedpur Local Centre, greeted the committee members, guests, and participants. The Chief Guest, Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Chief of Environment Management at Tata Steel, was introduced by Er. Anurag Agnihotri.

Speaking on the occasion, Chakraborty said, “World Environment Day is a reminder that each of us has a role in safeguarding our planet. By working together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations to come.”

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Anurag Agnihotri. Participants took pledges to minimise the use of plastic, reduce waste, adopt greener habits, and support sustainability-focused policies.
