Initiatives to streamline traffic in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, July 20: The traffic department along with Tata Steel UISL has embarked on a drive to streamline traffic movement in the city. After removing encroachment from Sakchi- Bhalubasa stretch near Tank Road, construction of divider and barricading started today under strict vigil.

“We want to streamline the traffic movement in the city. We are taking initiatives to vacate the illegal constructions so that the vehicles can move easily,” noted Vijaya Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner.

Kadma, Bistupur, and Sakchi, which are the busiest areas of the town, over fifty fruit vendors and vegetable sellers have encroached the road and there is always a traffic jam as the fruit vendors have occupied one fourth portion of the road, making it difficult to move the heavy vehicles.

The move assumes significance as illegal parking along with encroachment was the main bottleneck for smooth commuting in the biggest market.

According to sources in the district administration, Tata Steel UISL has been asked to identify the plots so that work on fencing the area and demarcating it as parking areas can be initiated to prevent people from encroaching it again.

“It has been seen that once the area is freed from encroachment and allowed to remain as it is, vendors start encroaching it again after a few days. This time we have made a strategy to outsmart the vendors,” said a source in the district administration.

In the intensive exercise carried out by East Singhbhum district administration. “We had made a public announcement beforehand about removing encroachment on roads. But the areas in which the anti-encroachment would be conducted were kept to prevent encroachers from seeking political patronage and obstructing the drive through unnecessary pressure,” said a senior administrative official preferring anonymity.

Incidentally, the issue of mishap threat arising out of movement of long trailers, carrying goods for Tata Steel and other industries, while turning from the bridge to the Marine Drive at the junction point is also being discussed.
