Jamshedpur, Feb 2: Third edition of Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship 2023 (TSSCC’23) kicks off today at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The event being organised by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) with the support of Tata Steel Foundation & JCAPCPL (Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing & Processing Company Private Limited), will conclude on February 5.
266 athletes (99 female and 167 male) in boy’s and girl’s category spread over various age categories across 16 states of the country are participating in the event. Championship is conducted in Lead Climbing, Speed Climbing, Bouldering, Top Rope and Speed Relay disciplines.

Athletes from Jharkhand, Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Telangana, Jammu, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are participating.
Rajiv Mangal, Vice President Safety, Health & Sustainability (Designate) Tata Steel graced the inaugural ceremony as Chief guest while TSAF Mentor Bachendri Pal, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree and first Indian woman to summit Mt Everest, was the Guest of Honor. Both motivated and encouraged the athletes to show sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centres and Hemant Gupta, Head, Adventure & Sports were also present.
Recently, TSAF successfully hosted Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship in Jamshedpur from December 8 to 11, 2022 wherein athletes from 9 Asian countries participated. TSAF Sport Climbing Academy is home to two Lead Walls, two Speed Walls and 16 Boulders.
