India Maintain ODI Supremacy in ICC Rankings Despite Narrowing Lead

Dubai (IANS): India continues to reign as the world’s top-ranked ODI side following the ICC’s annual rankings update released on Monday. While the “Men in Blue” successfully retained their No. 1 status, a slight ratings adjustment has intensified the competition at the summit of white-ball cricket.

The Battle for the Summit

India’s lead at the top saw a marginal decline, with their rating moving from 119 to 118. Conversely, New Zealand emerged as the primary challengers, gaining two points to reach 113. This shift has reduced India’s lead from eight points to five. Despite the narrowing gap, India’s dominance remains undisputed as they currently hold the top spot in both the Men’s ODI and T20I rankings.

Top Five Shuffles

• Australia: The reigning World Champions remained steady in third place with a rating of 109.

• South Africa: The Proteas made the most significant leap within the top five, climbing to fourth place. Gaining four points to reach 102, they overtook Pakistan, who slipped to fifth with a rating of 98.

• Mid-Table Stability: Sri Lanka (6th), Afghanistan (7th), England (8th), and Bangladesh (9th) all maintained their respective positions with minor rating fluctuations.

Global Movement and Sharp Declines

The lower half of the table witnessed notable volatility. Ireland climbed to 11th, overtaking Zimbabwe, while the United States moved up to 13th by surpassing Scotland. The Netherlands also posted strong gains, adding four points to their tally.

At the bottom of the spectrum, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) climbed to 19th, while Canada suffered the update’s harshest blow, losing six points to fall to the bottom of the table with a rating of 10.
