India Post to Bring Rakhi Speed Post Service to Schools in Singhbhum

‘Make and Send Rakhi’ campaign to promote creativity and ensure timely delivery of rakhis

 Jamshedpur: Sending rakhis to brothers this Raksha Bandhan is set to become easier for schoolchildren, with the Department of Posts launching a special initiative that will enable students to dispatch rakhis through Speed Post directly from their schools.

The Singhbhum Division of India Post will organise a unique ‘Make and Send Rakhi’ campaign, allowing students to handcraft rakhis and have them posted without visiting a post office. The initiative aims to promote Indian traditions while familiarising children with postal services.

Postal teams to visit schools

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Singhbhum Division, Udaybhan Singh said Raksha Bandhan is a symbol of love, trust and the enduring bond between siblings.

He said dedicated postal teams will visit participating schools to collect handmade rakhis and complete the Speed Post booking process on the school premises, sparing students and parents the inconvenience of standing in queues at post offices.

Officials said the initiative is expected to encourage creativity among children while strengthening their understanding of India Post’s services.

Competition to encourage young talent

As part of the campaign, schools will organise a ‘Make and Send Rakhi’ competition.

The top 10 participants from each participating school will receive certificates of appreciation, while the 10 most creative entries from across the Singhbhum Division will be presented with special grand prizes.

Waterproof envelopes for monsoon season

To ensure rakhis reach their destinations safely during the rainy season, the Postal Department has introduced special waterproof envelopes.

These will be available at two Head Post Offices, 71 Sub-Post Offices and 654 Branch Post Offices across the Singhbhum Division.

The total cost of the service has been fixed at ₹70, comprising ₹10 for the waterproof envelope, ₹55 as the Speed Post charge and ₹5 towards handling charges.

Special counters for festive rush

The Postal Department will also establish dedicated Rakhi counters at major post offices to manage the expected festive rush.

A special delivery team will be deployed to ensure that rakhis are delivered safely and on time, enabling sisters to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their brothers despite the distance between them.
