Jamshedpur: The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a weather alert for Jamshedpur and parts of Jharkhand, forecasting thundershowers, hail, and gusty winds across isolated areas of the state over the next three days. The weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, lightning, and winds of varying intensity, with the potential for disruptive weather events.
On Wednesday, the weather will be marked by thunderstorms and lightning, especially in isolated areas of western and adjoining central parts of the state. The gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 40-50 km/h, are also expected to intensify the situation, which may cause temporary disruptions. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, particularly those in vulnerable outdoor conditions.
The weather is expected to intensify on Thursday, as hailstorms, coupled with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, will affect isolated areas of southern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand. The wind speeds are expected to increase, reaching up to 50-60 km/h, creating the potential for localized damage, especially to crops, structures, and trees. In addition, thunderstorms and lightning are forecast to strike isolated areas in the north-western and north-central parts of the state, with gusty winds of 40-50 km/h.
On Friday, conditions will continue to worsen, with hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 50-60 km/h predicted in isolated regions of the southeastern, central, and northeastern parts of Jharkhand. The northern, southwestern, and north-central areas are also likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds ranging between 40-50 km/h. These adverse weather conditions are expected to affect local transportation and could cause difficulties for those traveling or working outdoors.
Alongside the thunderstorms and hail, the IMD forecast also suggests a gradual rise in the maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next few days. This temperature increase, combined with the stormy weather, may create further discomfort and affect day-to-day activities in the state.
Residents of Jharkhand, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, are urged to stay alert, monitor local weather updates, and take preventive measures to safeguard lives and property. Farmers should be particularly cautious, as hail storms could pose a significant threat to crops, while strong winds may cause structural damage. The IMD has recommended that people stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees or near large structures, and secure outdoor objects that may be blown away by the wind.
