Jamshedpur: The monsoon remains active over Jharkhand, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rain is forecast over several regions in the next few days, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
On June 28, heavy rainfall was reported at isolated places across the southern, central, and north-central parts of Jharkhand. Thunderstorm activity, along with lightning and gusty winds, occurred in several areas. The IMD has issued advisories urging caution during these conditions.
The wet spell is set to intensify on June 29, with very heavy rain likely over north-central and adjoining central regions. Other areas—including southern, central, and north-western parts—are also likely to receive heavy showers, while thunderstorms may persist across the state.
The rainfall activity is expected to continue into early July. On June 30, heavy rainfall is likely over north-western and central Jharkhand. On July 1, south-western and adjoining central districts may experience heavy showers. By July 2, the focus of the rain is expected to shift towards isolated locations in the west-central parts of the state.
Meteorologists attributed this spell of enhanced rainfall to a significant east-west trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan to Bangladesh. The trough runs through East Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, North Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, reaching up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the northern limit of the monsoon continues to pass through Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Sonipat, and extends into Anup Nagar.
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were reported across most districts. The highest rainfall in the past two days was recorded in Khunti block at 105 mm. Saraikela-AWS registered the highest maximum temperature at 33.9°C, while Gumla recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.5°C.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert for possible waterlogging, localized flooding, and lightning risks during this period of intense monsoon activity.
