Seraikela: With the Holi festival approaching, the Excise Department has intensified its efforts to curb the production and distribution of illicit alcohol. Following a direct order from the Deputy Commissioner, a special task force conducted high-stakes raids near the Chilgu area, targeting illegal operations in Chakulia and Bhadoodih villages.
Raids and Seizures
The operation, carried out under the jurisdiction of the Chandil police station, resulted in the successful dismantling of three active distillation units.
The crackdown resulted in the following:
- Illegal Units Dismantled: 3
- Fermented Mahua Destroyed: Approximately 500 kg (processed on-site).
- Illicit Liquor Seized: 35 litres of country-made mahua liquor.
Legal Action and Continued Vigilance
Authorities have officially registered cases against the accused individuals under the Excise Act. Legal proceedings are currently underway to identify others involved in the supply chain.
Excise officials have signalled that this is only the beginning of a larger enforcement campaign. To ensure a peaceful and safe Holi, strict surveillance and surprise raids will continue across the district to prevent the sale of poisonous or unregulated spirits.
