Jamshedpur, Jan 15:Excise unit of Jamshedpur division on Friday unearthed an illegal liquor factory being operated in a house at Dipasai-Rasunchopa village under Kowali thana area in Potka block of East Singhbhum district and seized spurious Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) of reputed brands worth Rs 1.70 lakh.
While the owner of the illegal makeshift factory, identified as Lalchand Das managed to flee from the spot along with staff after seeing the raiding team, but police managed to seize 38 crates (456 bottles) of whisky of a reputed brand, two crates (24 bottles) of rum, one litre of caramel and 20 strips of stickers of rum of a reputed multinational brand and nearly 400 pieces of corks and covers of various reputed brands.
“All the liquor had in their bottle written ‘for sale in Arunachal Pradesh’ and we believe that the stickers were procured from Calcutta and would have been pasted in the bottles to make the masses believe that it was original liquor of reputed brands. The raid was carried out on the basis of a tip-off. We will be lodging a case against Lalchand Das who was engaged in packaging of the bottles,” said Navin Kumar inspector with the Jamshedpur excise team.
Significantly, Jamshedupr excise unit on December unearthed an illegal liquor factory being operated in a house at Green Park area under Kadma thana in Jamshedpur and recovered 40 litre of spirits used in manufacturing of liquor, more than 2000 fake stickers of prominent brands and over 1500 bottle corks from the room and other raw materials used for making liquor. However, the team could not find any bottles or packed bottles from the room.
