Jamshedpur, Jan 10: In a strong move against illegal encroachments, the administration has demolished the under-construction Priya Bala Heritage Apartment located on Marine Drive in Uliyan, Kadma. The multi-storey structure, built at an estimated cost of several crores, was being constructed on unclaimed government land without authorization. The demolition began on Thursday using four JCB machines, with the front portion of the building already brought down and the remaining structure was razed on Friday.
The apartment was being built on 25 decimals of government land identified as Account No. 1217, Plot No. 55/2797, situated behind Srinath Residency Colony. Builder Kunal Singh had commenced construction in August 2024, completing the basement, first floor, and partial centering for the second floor. Despite legal notices and orders, Singh failed to provide valid ownership documents for the land.

According to Zonal Officer Manoj Kumar, “Illegal construction on government land cannot be tolerated. Despite repeated warnings, the builder failed to produce ownership documents or halt the work. This action was necessary to protect government property.” He further explained that the administration had filed a case under JPLE No. 06-24/25, and though the High Court initially stayed the demolition, the stay was later lifted after the government’s arguments were presented. Following this, the builder was directed to remove the encroachment within seven days by December 28, 2024, but no action was taken.
The demolition was carried out under the supervision of Zonal Officer Manoj Kumar and Executive Magistrate Sudipt Raj, with the support of police from Kadma Police Station, armed forces, and Quick Response Teams (QRT). Strict security arrangements ensured the smooth execution of the operation.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, flats in the illegal apartment were reportedly being sold for Rs. 1.20 crore each, with buyers already paying booking amounts of Rs. 20 lakh. A distressed buyer present at the demolition site said, “I have paid Rs. 20 lakh as an advance for a flat. Now, I don’t know how to recover my money.”
