Dhanbad, Aug 11: IIT ISM, Dhanbad director Prof. Sukumar Mishra was elected president of Jharkhand Vigyan Bharati.
At the general body meeting of Jharkhand Vigyan Bharati held at CIMFR), Dhanbad on Sunday evening Dr. J.K. Pandey (vice president, CSIR–CIMFR), Prof. Dheera Kumarj (vice president, IIT (ISM)), Dr. M.P. Roy (vice president, CSIR–CIMFR), Dr. Chandrashekhar Dwivedi (secretary, Central University of Jharkhand), S.K. Kashyap (joint Secretary), and Dr. Ravindra Shetty (Treasurer, BCCL) were also elected.
In his first address as president, Prof. Mishra shed light on the importance of scientific innovation rooted in the Indian knowledge system.
“We aim to host impactful programs at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad that will strengthen Vigyan Bharati’s presence in Jharkhand, with special focus on mining, environmental sciences, and the integration of traditional wisdom with modern technology,” he said.
The meeting also outlined major upcoming events, including an international conference on environment, mining, and energy to be jointly organized by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and CSIR–CIMFR,.anIt was also decided to hold a conference celebrating the contributions of renowned geologist Pramatha Nath Bose in Jamshedpur and Ranchi. Vigyan Bharati’s foundation day celebrations on October 21 across Jharkhand.
Naresh Chafekar Dr. N.P. Shukla , Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma also addressed.
More than 50 life members representing institutions such as CSIR–CIMFR, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, BCCL, CCL, Central University of Jharkhand, and Usha Martin Ranchi attended the session.
Prominent among them were Akhil Bharatiya Sangathan Mantri Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Akhil Bharatiya Sah-Sangathan Mantri Shri Praveen Ramdas, National Governing Council member and Jharkhand Prabhari Dr. N.P. Shukla, and Governing Council Member & National Convenor (Registration & Outreach) of VVM Shri Naresh Chafekar.
