Jamshedpur, Dec 7: IIM Ahmedabad emerged Champions of Steel-a-thon 2014 which witnessed a thrilling Grand Finale at Centre for Excellence Auditorium, Jamshedpur on Saturday, Dec 7.
The finale was closely contested between teams from 14 different B-schools of the country who presented their business caselets live to jury members – Peeyush Gupta (VP, M&S, Tata Steel), Suresh Dutt Tripathi (VP, HRM, Tata Steel), Ms. Deepa Verma (Chief, HRM Services, Tata Steel), Debashish Chowdhury (Chief, Business Excellence & New Projects, Tata Steel), Biren Bhuta (Chief, CSR, Tata Steel), Ashish Anupam (EIC, Tubes, Tata Steel) and Ms Swastika Basu (Chief, Procurement, MRO & Services).
IIM Shillong secured the 1st Runners up position while there was a tie between SIBM Pune and MDI Gurgaon for the 2nd Runners Up slot at Steel-a-thon, the most gruelling intellectual marathon for B-school students. Champions walked away with cash prizes of 250,000, 150,000 for the 1st runners up while 100,000 each for the two teams for the 2nd runners up. Members of these teams also won the opportunity to interview for jobs at Tata Steel, thus commencing their ascent to positions of leadership.
Fourteen B-schools selected for finals included SIBM Pune, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Shillong, IIFT, FMS, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, TISS, MDI, JBIMS, XIMB and XLRI.

Steel-a-thon was launched on 18th September, 2014, across premier business schools in India. Over 600 teams (each team comprising 2 to 4 students) from 15 B-schools participated in the exciting journey.
The objective of Steel-a-thon, a talent hunt for B-schools, was to engage with future leaders, provide a platform for interaction with Tata Steel�s top management, and supply real business challenges to students to identify and reward the smartest minds.
These challenges covered subjects like Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Marketing & Sales.
