Jamshedpur: The Student Branch Chapter of the IEEE Systems Council, the world’s largest technical professional organization, was officially inaugurated at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur. The inauguration took place in the illustrious Diamond Jubilee Hall of the institute, witnessed by a distinguished gathering of technical experts, the Head of Department, esteemed Professors, and enthusiastic students from various departments.
The IEEE Systems Council, known as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, represents the pinnacle of technical professionalism and innovation globally. With a membership that encompasses engineers, scientists, and allied professionals from diverse domains, including computer science, software development, information technology, physics, and medicine, the Systems Council epitomizes the pursuit of technological excellence. It is regarded as an institution that empowers every student to confront intricate challenges and drive innovation.
The establishment of the IEEE Systems Council Student Branch Chapter at NIT Jamshedpur was made possible through the unwavering dedication of Dr. K. Namrata, Faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Dr. Rashmi Sinha, Faculty in the Department of Electronics and Communication, under the guidance of the Institute’s Director, Prof. Goutam Sutradhar. The auspicious inauguration ceremony saw Professor (Dr.) Sivaji Chakraborty, former President of IEE Kolkata Chapter and Professor at Jadavpur University, serving as the Chief Guest. The traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony was gracefully conducted by Prof. Shivaji Chakraborty, former Director of NIT Calicut.
During the program, Prof. Shivaji Chakraborty, a renowned expert in power engineering, enlightened the audience about the latest trends and challenges in this domain. His address was followed by an interactive session that allowed students and faculty members to engage with him directly.
In his virtual address, Professor and Program Chairperson (Dr.) Sanjeevkumar Padmanabhan from the University of South Eastern Norway shared his experiences, emphasizing the critical role systems engineering plays in solving complex real-world problems. He commended NIT Jamshedpur for establishing this Student Branch Chapter, highlighting the potential for knowledge dissemination and collaboration in this field.
A significant virtual keynote was delivered by Walter Downing, Chair of the IEEE Systems Council and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Downing emphasized the unprecedented opportunities and challenges presented by complexity, driving innovation that transforms our lives while necessitating a deep understanding of systems for their reliability, security, and sustainability.
Director of NIT Jamshedpur, Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, shared his insights, acknowledging the rapidly evolving technological landscape and the increasing complexity and interconnectivity of modern systems.
The successful organization of the event was made possible by the dedicated student members of the IEEE Systems Council Student Branch Chapter, including Nishant Kumar (President), Mantosh Kumar (Vice President), Rajesh Kumar (Treasurer), MD Sajjad (Secretary), Kumaresh Pal (Webmaster), and volunteers Abhinav Kumar and Himanshu, all of whom played instrumental roles in its execution.
